Thomas C. Melzer, Managing Director Tom Melzer co-founded RiverVest and serves as one of the firm’s managing directors. Mr. Melzer brings a wealth of experience in management, finance, economic policymaking and board of directors service to the team. Prior to co-founding RiverVest, Mr. Melzer was one of a handful of individuals who had the distinction of directly influencing U.S. monetary policy. As president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, he directed its involvement in the formulation of monetary policy, the supervision of banks, and the provision of payments services to depository institutions. In addition, he served on the FOMC, the Federal Reserve System’s chief monetary policymaking body. He also served as chairman of the investment committee for the Federal Reserve pension plan. Before joining the Fed, Mr. Melzer was a managing director of Morgan Stanley & Co., Incorporated, where he started his career in corporate finance and eventually headed its U.S. Government Securities Department, overseeing the development of money market, financial futures, and options groups. Presently, Mr. Melzer is a member of the board of directors of Kereos and Centerre Healthcare and a board observer for CyDex, all Fund I companies. He has been instrumental in building Kereos from a start-up company with a single employee and no funding into a well-financed company with a skilled management team and multiple corporate partnerships. Mr. Melzer’s non-RiverVest board affiliations include Isto Technologies, a tissue engineering company, and Residential Capital Corporation, a subsidiary of GMAC. He also serves on the National Council for the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University, the Stanford Institute of Economic Policy Research Advisory Board, and the board of director of Parents as Teachers National Center, Inc.
