Dennis Wahr, M.D., joined RiverVest® in August 2005 as a managing director. In July 2007, he co-founded Lutonix, Inc., a Fund II portfolio company. Dennis subsequently stepped down as RiverVest managing director to focus on the rapid growth of Lutonix, where he is currently president and CEO. He remains a RiverVest venture partner. As co-founder, president, and CEO of Velocimed, LLC, a RiverVest Fund I portfolio company, Dennis directed four financing events that raised $45 million to fund product development, international clinical trials, regulatory approval, and commercialization of three device products. Velocimed was sold to St. Jude Medical, Inc. in April 2005.   

Prior to founding and leading Velocimed, Dennis practiced medicine as a leading interventional cardiologist for 15 years. During his time in practice, he served as the Director of Interventional Cardiology and Chief of Cardiology at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Dennis has been involved in research projects as principal investigator and has served as a member of the medical advisory board for Percusurge, Inc. and Pharmacyclics, Inc., among other companies. He is presently a director of Lutonix and Accumetrics, Inc., and a past director of Velocimed, NexRay, Inc. and Corazon, Inc., which are all medical device companies.

In addition to his management, operational and clinical expertise, Dennis has published research in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Circulation and American Journal of Cardiology, and is the author of book chapters and abstracts.

Dennis performed his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and his residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan. He received his M.D. from Wayne State University School of Medicine and his B.A. from Albion College.
